IMPROV for ACTORS

Days & Times:  Mondays, 6 - 8:30pm

Class Coach:  Iris Wilhelm-Norseth

CLASS PREREQUISITE

NONE.  Did you know that according to a poll in Backstage Magazine, one of the primary skills casting directors look for on a performer’s resume is experience in Improv?  Why?  Performers of Improv understand how to give to their fellow performers in a way that other Actors simply don’t.  Learn what it takes to be an improvisor and how it can help you on stage and screen.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

This 8-week course introduces the 5 Rules of Improv and, with it, the 7 Deadly Sins of Improv.

Improv skills will be practiced by using warm-ups, skill games, and short scene work, focusing on listening skills, vocalization, and physicality.

It will also utilize short and long form exercises, but its main goal is to learn how to translate these skills to the Actor’s scripted work either on-screen or on-stage.

End of term will culminate in a short form “recital” for all participants.
